UC Libraries will be performing routine maintenance Sunday, June 29, from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The following services will be offline during maintenance:
- Off Campus Access (proxy services)
- Ilib.libraries.uc.edu (intranet)
- Libapps server:
- Library Blogs
- UC Libraries staff directory on website
- A-Z Database List on website
In addition to these services being unavailable, users may see an error on the website in the News, Hours and Staff Directory areas while this maintenance is being performed. All other areas of the UC Libraries website and Library Catalog will be unaffected.
While the starting web address of our site remains the same – www.libraries.uc.edu, the navigation and content within the site has changed considerably, so please update any links or bookmarks you may have to the site.
Some of the new features and upgrades of the UC Libraries website redesign include:
- updated look and feel and an uncluttered homepage with most content viewable without scrolling;
- user-requested features such as the posting of today’s hours, enhanced location maps and a prominent link to Off-Campus Access from the homepage;
- new content around the growing subject of digital scholarship has been added, as well as a website dedicated to the Libraries’ Special Collections;
- core services such as reserves, workshops, interlibrary loan, multimedia equipment lending and the Student Technology Resources Center (STRC) are prominently featured;
- a tabbed search box, available on the left-side of the homepage and throughout on many secondary pages of the site, will allow users to search for articles, books, journals, databases and much more quickly and easily. Users can also access via the homepage research guides available by subject.
Included in the redesign are all college and departmental (C&D) library websites from the Archives to Rare Books Library to the Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions, as well as the UC Blue Ash College Library website.

On May 6, the University of Cincinnati Libraries will unveil a completely redesigned website.
Available at www.libraries.uc.edu (same URL as current site) the new website is easy to read and navigate with an updated look and feel, an uncluttered homepage with most content viewable without scrolling, new information and streamlined navigation. User-requested features such as the posting of today’s hours, enhanced location maps and a prominent link to Off-Campus Access from the homepage are included in the redesign.
UC’s Data Center will be down for two days December 28 & 29 in order to receive a much-needed boost to its backup power supplies. Several major systems including “uc.edu” websites, Blackboard, and VPN access will be unavailable during this temporary outage. The UC Libraries Website, Library Catalog and access to off-campus resources via the proxy server will still be available.
For more on this outage, read the UCIT news release online.
Please note that ILLiad, the Interlibrary Loan service, will be unavailable 8am to approximately 12pm on August 20 so that the ILLiad server can be upgraded. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please Note: We will be performing routine maintenance on the library servers Tuesday, December 18 beginning at 5pm. During the upload, the Libraries websites, e-reserves and certain databases will be unavailable for a short time.
Please Note: UC Libraries will be closed Monday, January 16, Martin Luther King, Jr’s Birthday, except for the Health Sciences Library, which will be open 9am-5pm. Check the particular library website or library location for exceptions or changes to the listed hours.
To meet the university’s needs for increased Internet bandwidth, UCIT will perform an upgrade to the Cincinnati Education Research Fiber-loop (CERF) ring during Labor Day weekend. The CERF ring is the backbone providing Internet and Internet2 connectivity for UC, Xavier, and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. The upgrade will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 2 and is expected to be complete by 1:00 a.m. Sunday, September 4. Users should expect intermittent service interruption to the Internet during this window, however there is a possibility for intermittent Internet outages during the entire maintenance period.
Read Source, the UC Libraries newsletter for faculty, students, staff, and friends.
This volume celebrates the 10th anniversary of our newsletter. To mark this important milestone, the cover has been redesigned to bring more attention to the cover image. And what a perfect image to highlight this issue than that of our grand, new sculpture found in Langsam Library – Triceracopter.
The UC Libraries website has been updated to incorporate the new UC header with links to other UC sites including “About UC,” “Admissions,” and “Health.”
In addition, we have added a powerful new search tool, Summon, to the website. From a single search box located prominently on the Articles & More tab on the homepage, Summon provides easy and fast discovery of relevant information from the UC Libraries collections on any topic. It is the place to start research in journal and newspaper articles, books, government documents, maps, music recordings, videos, digital collections, and more.
