It is a celebration of the talent of UC faculty beyond the lecture halls and research labs. Publications of faculty spanning articles, books, edited journals, musical scores, artwork, poetry, DVDs, videos and the Web were on display at the annual Authors, Editors and Composers Reception and Program.
The event, open to invited members of the UC community, was held 3:30-5 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center.
The Library Catalog will be unavailable on Sunday, April 18, 2010 beginning at 8:00 am for scheduled maintenance of the system. The Library Catalog will be offline for 4 hours 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on April 18, 2010. Thank you for your patience.
Electronic articles and journals will still be available online.

People searching the UC Library Catalog may notice a new location on certain item records — Mercantile, which stands for the Mercantile Library.
UPDATE: All services have been restored.
Please note that on Saturday, December 19th from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm electric power to Langsam Library will be out for planned maintenance. This power outage will cause the UC Libraries Web site, the Library Catalog, and Interlibrary Loan services through ILLiad to be inaccessible during this time.
In addition, UCit@Langsam will be closed 5:00 am to 1:00 pm because of the power outage.

Join nationally known authors Jennifer Weiner, Garth Stein, and Jeannette Walls along with local favorites Greg Rhodes, Ellen Schreiber, and Thayne Maynard to celebrate the joy and reading of books at Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival, Saturday, October 17, 10am-4pm, Duke Energy Convention Center.
The day-long festival will feature over 80 regional and national authors, book signings, author panels, and activities for the entire family to enjoy. All events are free and open to the public.
Paul Hogue, one of the greatest athletes in the University of Cincinnati’s history, and a member of the school’s NCAA championship teams in 1961 and 1962, passed away in Cincinnati on August 17, 2009 at the age of 69.
As a tribute to Paul, the Archives and Rare Books Library has created an online exhibit sharing images of him from his remarkable Bearcat career.
From the exhibit: “Paul Hogue was UC’s first truly effective big man who was variously measured at 6’ 9” or 6’ 10 inches tall, a veritable oak on the court as he set picks and cleared the lane for his teammates. Running into a Hogue pick was a memorable experience for opposing players. His offense, coupled with a nice soft shooting touch, made him a collegiate star.”

On Thursday, April 23, 2009, the University of Cincinnati Libraries will once again recognize the publishing and creative accomplishments of UC’s faculty at the annual “Authors, Editors & Composers” event. Scheduled for 3:30pm in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center at UC, “Authors, Editors & Composers” will pay tribute to the 2008 scholarly and creative works of UC’s faculty with a reception, presentation of selected works, a printed bibliography, and an exhibit.
Lorrie Moore was born in Glens Falls, New York and attended St. Lawrence and Cornell universities. She is the author of the story collections Birds of America, Like Life, and Self-Help, as well as the novels Who Will Run the Frog Hospital? and Anagrams. A new novel, A Gate at the Stairs, is due out in September. Her stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, The Paris Review, The Yale Review and elsewhere. John Updike selected one of her stories for inclusion in The Best American Short Stories of the Century. She has been the recipient of the Irish Times Prize for International Literature, the Rea Award for the Short Story, the PEN/Malamud Award, the O.Henry Award, and a Lannan Foundation Literary fellowship. She is currently a professor at the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, where she lives with her son.
