Morning at the Window

They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,

April is National Poetry Month. In celebration of this, UC Libraries has mounted an exhibit on the fourth floor of Langsam Library celebrating poetry and poets.
Included in the exhibit is information about the Elliston Poetry Room, some Ohio poets, poets with a Cincinnati connection, and a sampling of UC poets including Armando Romero, Danielle Deulen, Don Bogen, James Cummins, John Drury and Nicasio Urbina.
In celebration of International Education Week, the Marx Law Library and UC Libraries collaborated on a display in support of UC’s First-Year Student Common Reading Program and the book Justice. The display, titled “Justice Around the World: Human Rights and Human Wrongs,” features the College of Law’s Human Rights Quarterly and the Pennsylvania Studies in Human Rights. Both are edited by Bert Lockwood, Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Director, Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights. Three new exhibits have been installed in Blegen and Langsam Libraries that feature UC Libraries’ collections.
Blegen 4th Floor Lobby: The exhibit “Clifton” showcases the magazine that, according to its editor Cliff Radel, was known for “Purposefully taking a sideways look at the University and the community [that] will undoubtedly be discomforting to a great number of people who operate with fixed principles. Good.” The exhibit was created by communications design student Alixandria Wolfe, a senior DAAP student, and Melissa Cox Norris, director of library communications Learn more about Clifton magazine online via an exhibit from the Archives and Rare Books Library.
The year 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of the first publishing of Kinder und Hausmarchen (Children’s and Household Tales), a collection of German folk tales published by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and commonly referred to as Grimms’ Fairy Tales. In celebration of this monumental book, an exhibit is currently on display on Langsam Library’s 4th and 5th floor lobbies celebrating the Brothers Grimm and their many contributions to the world of fairy tales. Staff of the Gorno Memorial Music (CCM) Library have created an exhibit of the first place winners of the Paul Revere Awards for Graphic Excellence. The exhibit will be available for viewing through the end of October on the 4th floor of Blegen Library. Continue reading

As the school year comes to a close today so does my internship at the Archives & Rare Books Library. Throughout my internship I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and have truly come to appreciate the role the Archives & Rare Books Library plays in documenting Cincinnati’s history. Not originally from this town, through processing the Nelson and Florence Hoffman Cincinnati Post Card Collection and The Gaylord Oscar Shepherd Collection of Strobridge Lithography Company Calendar Cards, I was able learn about Cincinnati’s rich past and all of the events and people that gave rise to the present culture of the city.
Ever dream of wearing a piece of sculpture? You can imagine it now when you visit the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) . On display through July 31 are handsculpted, original jewelry designs in precious metals from Lynne Meyers Gordon, M.F.A. The strikingly beautiful pieces include necklaces, pendents, and belts in geometric forms in all shapes and sizes and different metals. Continue reading
