Empowering People and Changing Lives: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Hosts the 8th National Conference of African-American Librarians

About the Conference
Hundreds of African-American librarians, library staffers, vendors and advocates from around the country gathered August 7-11, 2013 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center to attend the 8th National Conference of African-American Librarians (NCAAL). The conference, sponsored by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, provided attendees the opportunity to network, as well as to gain knowledge and skills needed to meet the challenges faced by African-American librarians and the communities of color they serve.
Libraries Closed January 20
UC Libraries will be closed Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. The Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library is the exception and will be open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday).
LIBRARY CLOSING AT 1PM
Libraries Closed for Thanksgiving
UC Libraries will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 28 & 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. All library locations will close at 5pm on Wednesday, November 27. Regular hours resume Saturday, November 30. A listing of library hours is available online.
UCit@Langsam, the 24/7 computer and study space, will remain open. Entrance is available via Langsam Library’s 5th floor lobby.
Looking for a Place to Study Late for Exams?
Langsam Library will offer extended hours until 2am from Sunday, December 1 through Thursday, December 12.
After the regular Langsam Library hours, library space only will be open for students to study until 2am during exams. To enter the library after the regular closing time, students must do so via the 5th floor UCit@Langsam card-swipe entrance (a valid UC ID is required).
Enjoy Music in the Gorno Library November 14
The next concert in the Music in the Gorno Library series will take place on Thursday, November 14 at 5 pm in the Albino Gorno Memorial Music Library Reading Room, 6th floor of Blegen Library. Presented by UC’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and UC Libraries, the concert will include works by Wagner and Schoenberg.
New Digital Repository for Scholarly Works of Faculty and Students Will Enhance Teaching, Learning, and Research
The University of Cincinnati has embarked on a project to build a next-generation UC digital repository, and has joined two new consortia that will greatly advance the creation of this new repository. The initiative is being led by the University of Cincinnati Libraries in partnership with UCIT, the Office of Research, and the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), the initial partners in what is expected to be a university-wide effort.
National Womens Studies Associal Meeting, Nov. 7-10
NWSA: National Women’s Studies Association is holding its annual meeting in the Duke Energy Convention Center, November 7-10. Established in 1977 to promote and support research, teaching, and learning about women and gender, NWSA’s annual conference is the only meeting of its kind within the United States that exclusively features feminist scholarship. On Saturday, October 12, the 7th annual Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival will take place at Duke Energy Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Once again, UC Libraries is an organizing partner of the literary event that allows readers to meet and greet favorite authors.
