Dolly Cohen: Philanthropist and Fashionista

If you were a member of Cincinnati’s blue blood society in the 1950s and 1960s, you would have surely known Dolly Cohen.  You might have also been acquainted with her, if you were a polio or cancer researcher, a local orphan, a victim of muscular dystrophy, a University of Cincinnati faculty member, a student seeking a scholarship, or even an Ohio State University football player.  The woman was everywhere, donating her time and money to a myriad of causes in Cincinnati and throughout the country.  The University of Cincinnati’s Archives and Rare Books Library holds Mrs. Cohen’s scrapbooks and other mementos which provide a visual timeline of her life and charitable work. Welcoming the Newest Bearcats with Fun and Games

UC Libraries play an active role in welcoming new students to the University. This summer (through August 2), over 4,000 incoming students participating in UC New Student Orientation are visiting Langsam Library. While here, they engage in activities designed to be entertaining while at the same time informative about the various research resources and services available in the Libraries.

Hungry?! Bite into Some Tasty Books at the Annual International Edible Book Festival

For the 10th year, the University of Cincinnati Libraries will celebrate the International Edible Books Festival with an event scheduled for Thursday, April 5 from 12:30-1:30pm on the 5th floor lobby of Langsam Library.

At the event, over 20 participants will present edible creations that represent a book in some form. There are few restrictions in creating an edible book – namely that the creation be edible and have something to do with a book. Continue reading

Spring LIFE OF THE MIND Lecture Series Kicks Off April 10

UC Faculty Members to Consider the Theme of Identity.

The spring Life of the Mind lecture series will kick off Tuesday, April 10 from 3:30-5pm in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. Life of the Mind features interdisciplinary conversations with UC faculty around a one-word theme followed by audience Q&A. Each quarter, there are two Life of the Mind sessions with three “thought provocateurs” contributing to each session. The spring Life of the Mind theme is Identity.

Books Good Enough to Eat. Create an Edible Book for the International Edible Books Festival.
