DAAP Library Featured in Cincy Chic

The services provided in the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, along with its new librarian, Jennifer Pollock, are featured in an article on Cincy Chic.

Among other accolades, the article states “…the DAAP library provides several subscriptions to periodicals, including Bazaar and W and international magazines like L’Officiel (French) and Sportswear International (British) so that library visitors can be up on the latest trends happening around the world.”

Views of Outer Space

ISS

Last night I was treated to an awesome sight as the International Space Station traveled through the southern sky at 9:32 pm and then the northern sky at 11:06 pm. Without the aid of binoculars or a telescope I could see a dazzling light sailing through the sky.

Sorry you missed it? It will appear again throughout the next couple of weeks. Continue reading

2009 Early Summer Institute

esi2009_11

On June 15-19 a group of UCL librarians presented the 2009 Early Summer Institute for faculty. The instructional technology institute funded by the Faculty Development Council has become a good tradition in recent years. This year’s topics and applications included  Dreamweaver, RefWorks, image and video editing software as well as a wide spectrum of Web 2.0 technologies ranging from Google applications to Twitter. 20 faculty members from 5 colleges attended the Institute and found the experience very vaulable. Here are some of their comments:

  • I consider this to be a well-conceived, well-structured, and worthwhile endeavor.”
  • The greatest strength of the institute was the hands-on nature that sought to solve problems and demonstrate practical techniques.”
  • “This was an amazing opportunity. I wish that I could do it again next year. Amazingly enough, I even have a new resprect for Twitter after John’s presentation.”
  •

We look forward to hearing how our alumni intergrate what they learned at the Institute into their teaching.

Libraries provide research assistance in person and online

It has been a busy year for reference and instructional librarians. We have met a lot of students through library sessions, at the InfoCommons, and through e-mail and chat transactions. We hope to help everyone who needs our assistance this  quarter! Please find links to various forms of personal assistance here.

A lot of useful information is available online. Please visit the instruction page for students, including course guides for specific classes and assignments, and check out the How Do I?.. pages.
