Welcome New Student Orientation

UC Libraries are welcoming new students to the university with a library orientation session in Langsam Library from 9:30-10:30am, June 29 through August 12.

During this time, new students tour the library, learn about the Libraries website, how to print in the libraries, watch a short video in the STRC, and visit UCit@Langsam.

UC Libraries Pay Tribute to UC Authors, Editors & Composers

Authors, Editors & Composers DisplayIt is a celebration of the talent of UC faculty beyond the lecture halls and research labs. Publications of faculty spanning articles, books, edited journals, musical scores, artwork, poetry, DVDs, videos and the Web were on display at the annual Authors, Editors and Composers Reception and Program.

The event, open to invited members of the UC community, was held 3:30-5 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center.

Scenes from Edible Books

April 1 marked the 9th annual UC Libraries celebration of the International Edible Books Festival. Over 20 participants created edible creations such as: Animal Farm, Where is the Green Sheep?, In Cold Blood, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, Caps for Sales, and Toxic Torts amoung other literary greats.

Bite into an Edible Book with UC Libraries

For the 9th consecutive year, the University of Cincinnati Libraries will celebrate the International Edible Books Festival with an event scheduled for Thursday, April 1 from 12:30-1:30pm in the 5th floor lobby of Langsam Library.

At the event, over 20 participants will present edible creations that represent a book in some form. There are few restrictions in creating an edible book – namely that the creation be edible and have something to do with a book.

Books Good Enough to Eat. Create an Edible Book for the International Edible Books Festival

The Libraries are seeking people interested in creating an edible book for the viewing and consuming enjoyment of those in attendance at the event.

Join us for Books by the Banks

bbtbJoin nationally known authors Jennifer Weiner, Garth Stein, and Jeannette Walls along with local favorites Greg Rhodes, Ellen Schreiber, and Thayne Maynard to celebrate the joy and reading of books at Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival, Saturday, October 17, 10am-4pm, Duke Energy Convention Center.

The day-long festival will feature over 80 regional and national authors, book signings, author panels, and activities for the entire family to enjoy. All events are free and open to the public.

ARB Celebrates Ohio Archives Month

Since 1993 the Society of Ohio Archivists has been promoting awareness of the state’s archives and archival material through a week-long, later to become a month-long, celebration of Ohio’s historic and cultural resources. Archives throughout Ohio are invited to contribute to the promotion of Archives Month by mounting theme-related exhibits, displaying posters, and publicizing the month’s events through local government and organizations. This year’s theme is “Documenting the Path to Freedom: Abolition and Anti-Slavery in Ohio.” Continue reading

Freedom without Walls! Exhibits to Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall

Portraits in Civil War Medicine

Brutal images of Civil War battle aftermath illustrate what soldiers on both sides of the conflict faced. However, the role of the healthcare professional on the battlefield is often overlooked. Those who tended to the wounded, sick, and dead made use of the tools and techniques available in a heroic effort to save as many men as possible and aid the Union or Confederate causes. A new exhibit on display in the Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions hopes to give a voice to the overlooked healthcare professionals of the Civil War. Continue reading
