UC Faculty Members to Consider the Theme of Identity.
The spring Life of the Mind lecture series will kick off Tuesday, April 10 from 3:30-5pm in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. Life of the Mind features interdisciplinary conversations with UC faculty around a one-word theme followed by audience Q&A. Each quarter, there are two Life of the Mind sessions with three “thought provocateurs” contributing to each session. The spring Life of the Mind theme is Identity.

Join the Albino Gorno Memorial (CCM) Music Library Wednesday, June 1 at 8:30pm to enjoy Canto Beneventano: Medieval Chant from Santa Sofia Benevento. The concert will be performed by Ensemble 1521 with the CCM Early Music Lab directed by CCM’s Matthew Peattie. Come early at 7:45 for a pre-concert talk by Sarah Bereza.

Free and open to the UC community and public, Life of the Mind features interdisciplinary conversations with UC faculty around a one-word theme. Each quarter, there are two Life of the Mind sessions with three “thought provocateurs” contributing to each session. Each scholar provides a 15-minute talk followed by audience Q&A.

It’s a total bust! Really. A bronze sculpture of composer Pietro Floridia has been donated to the University of Cincinnati and has found a home in the Gorno Memorial Music Library in the Blegen Library Building. The setting is entirely appropriate because back in 2004, the UC Libraries were about to add the 3,000,000th volume to its collections, with the desire that this addition be suitably rare and unusual, and, reflect the University’s historical ties to the City of Cincinnati. Dean Victoria A. Montavon marked this noteworthy event by designating the purchase of a collection of music, costume drawings, and documents of the opera, Paoletta, composed by Floridia as the official “Three Millionth.” The materials joined the collections in the UC Libraries’ Archives & Rare Books Library. The University of Cincinnati Libraries have made available via the Digital Projects Web site the Spanish Antiphoner, a 16th-century Gregorian chant choir book handwritten on vellum pages approximately 16 by 24 inches in diameter with neumatic notation and illuminated capitals. Pages 65 through 72 of the choir book are missing, but 242 pages remain intact.
Available online at http://digitalprojects.libraries.uc.edu/spanishantiphoner/index.asp, the Spanish Antiphoner can be viewed in its entirety as both PDF (download Adobe Acrobat Reader) files or by using Book Reader software. When viewing the Spanish Antiphoner through the Digital Projects database option, viewers can view thumbnails and large versions of the images, and then can rotate, zoom in and out, magnify particular areas, download, and print the images.
Explore the Albino Gorno Memorial Music (CCM) Library in its new location on the 6th floor of Blegen Library.
Accessible via the grand staircase in Blegen Library, the renovated CCM Library includes a computer and listening lab, group study and microfilm rooms, areas for study and reading, and space for the library’s collections of books, periodicals, and scores.
The Albino Gorno Memorial Music (CCM) Library is now open in its new space on the 6th floor of the Blegen Library building. While the move is not yet complete, they are able to provide most services, and expect to be completely “up to speed” later next week. In the meantime, the library is open on its regular schedule, including this weekend.
To reach the CCM Library in its new location, please use the grand staircase on the 4th floor of Blegen to come to the 6th floor, where you’ll find the CCM Library entrance. Staff phone numbers remain unchanged.
The Albino Gorno Memorial Music (CCM) Library and Music Listening Center will be closed December 24 through January 7 so that it may move from its current location on the fourth floor of Blegen Library to its newly renovated location on the sixth floor.
