October is Information Literacy Awareness Month
On October 1, 2009, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation establishing October as National Information Literacy Awareness Month. Information literacy, or the ability to find, evaluate, and use information effectively, is key in preparing students for being actively involved in a democratic society and seeking highly skilled jobs. UC Libraries play an active role in welcoming new students to the University. This summer (through August 2), over 4,000 incoming students participating in UC New Student Orientation are visiting Langsam Library. While here, they engage in activities designed to be entertaining while at the same time informative about the various research resources and services available in the Libraries.
The CERF optical ring, which provides Internet connectivity to the university, is experiencing a hardware-related issue affecting UC connectivity only. Therefore, emergency maintenance will occur overnight and is expected to last from midnight to 2 am. The university’s Internet access will be down while the maintenance is performed and the unit is rebooted. Continue reading

Exhibit of Published Works on Display in Langsam Library’s 4th and 5th Floors through June 10, 2012
The annual Authors, Editors and Composers reception and program was held Tuesday, April 17, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. At the event, UC Libraries honored 285 faculty members and their 413 creative and scholarly works published in the year 2011. Participating faculty members represented every UC college plus the Division of Professional Practice, and the Libraries. Continue reading
For the 10th year, the University of Cincinnati Libraries will celebrate the International Edible Books Festival with an event scheduled for Thursday, April 5 from 12:30-1:30pm on the 5th floor lobby of Langsam Library.
At the event, over 20 participants will present edible creations that represent a book in some form. There are few restrictions in creating an edible book – namely that the creation be edible and have something to do with a book. Continue reading
