Expand Your Global Perspective During International Education Week Activities at UC

Food, film and plenty of information-sharing will be brought into focus Nov. 14-19, when UC celebrates International Education Week.

UC Libraries is participating in International Education Week with the exhibit Travel the World with UC Libraries, currently on display on Langsam Library’s 4th floor and featuring guidebooks, phrase books, and websites that will aid people in their travels. Join the University of Cincinnati Libraries at Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival

On Saturday, October 22, the 5th annual Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival will take place at Duke Energy Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The day-long festival will feature over 100 regional and national authors, book signings, author panels, and activities for the entire family to enjoy. All events are free and open to the public.

National Arts and Humanities Art Exhibit and Event

October is National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM)! Stop by the Library during normal hours to see the UCBA Faculty Art Exhibition. The goal of the exhibit is to promote the value of the arts and humanities to students, through both academic offerings in the UCBA Liberal Arts Program, and broader cultural offerings that transcend academic disciplines and college departments.

Fall LIFE OF THE MIND Lecture Series Kicks Off October 18

The fall “Life of the Mind” lecture series will kick off Tuesday, October 18 from 3:30-5pm in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. Free and open to the UC community and public, “Life of the Mind” features interdisciplinary conversations with UC faculty around a one-word theme followed by audience Q&A. The fall “Life of the Mind” theme is “War.”

Are You A UCGuest and Want to Use the Internet?

The University of Cincinnati provides a wireless network that allows visitors who are not associated with UC and do not have credentials allowing access to our wireless network to connect to a “UCGuest” network. The “UCGuest” access allows visitors to view the Libraries website and search the Library Catalog.

When guests search for internet access, they should select the “UCGuest” option. No log on information is needed, but they must review and accept UCIT’s terms of use before a connection will be allowed.

Please Note: Electrical Shutdown Scheduled

An emergency electrical shutdown has been scheduled fo Langsam Library and Woodside/Library Garage for Saturday, Sept. 10th beginning at 6:30am and lasting 12 hours or longer. The work is necessary to replace a failed transformer and failed high voltage connections.

Library Services, including the Library Catalog, interlibrary loan, and the website, will be unavailable while Library IT and UCit bring the networking closet that provides access to our services onto the emergency power generator during the initial part of the shutdown. If all is working properly Library Services should be available by 10:00 am.

Important Internet Service Notice

UCit is performing additional maintenance on the university’s Internet environment this Saturday, Sept 10. The maintenance window will be between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. During this time, Internet access is expected to be intermittent and the university’s private network that links to Veteran’s, Children’s and UC Health will be unavailable.

Service Note: Internet Service Interruptions Sept. 2-4

To meet the university’s needs for increased Internet bandwidth, UCIT will perform an upgrade to the Cincinnati Education Research Fiber-loop (CERF) ring during Labor Day weekend. The CERF ring is the backbone providing Internet and Internet2 connectivity for UC, Xavier, and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. The upgrade will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 2 and is expected to be complete by 1:00 a.m. Sunday, September 4. Users should expect intermittent service interruption to the Internet during this window, however there is a possibility for intermittent Internet outages during the entire maintenance period.

Extra! Extra! UC Student Newspapers in the University of Cincinnati Libraries

A new exhibit on display on the 4th floor of Blegen Library traces the development of student newspapers at the University of Cincinnati from the publication of the first paper in 1880 to today. 

The exhibit features a timeline of events in the history of student newspaper production, highlighting the run dates, a short description, and the groups behind the various publications. Examples of each newspaper are displayed.
