Requesting an Article Using the Online Request System ILLiad

If UC does not have the article you want, request it through ILLiad, the online request system.

Benefits:

  • Login using your UC central login.
  • Fill out a profile once and ILLiad will supply your information for all future requests
  • Able to track requests by logging into ILLiad
  • Able to revise citations and re-submit requests, or cancel requests electronically
  • Able to request an article on the spot when searching a database via the UC Article Linker button.

HSL CampusGuides: Taking Research to a New Level

The Health Sciences Library is transitioning the “Electronic Resources” topics to a more user-friendly, robust CampusGuides interface during the 2011-2012 academic year. CampusGuides incorporate search boxes, RSS Feeds, embedded media, surveys and can be easily accessed on mobile devices.  See the newly published Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Resources; the first example of a new and improved topic guide.

More topic guides will be coming soon.  As the topics transition to CampusGuides some will appear in the old interface and some in the new.  The links on the Electronic Resources page will be changed to lead directly to the new topic guide as they are developed.

We look forward to your feedback and suggestions to help make these topic guides as useful as possible.

 

Please Sir, I Want Some More, or, a Dickens of a Celebration

Oliver TwistThis month marks the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens, a man who once remarked on an 1842 visit to Cincinnati that the Irish marchers in a temperance parade behaved quite nicely.  Of course, that visit was in January so the St. Patrick’s Day parade was still two months away.  Dickens’ bicentennial is February 7, and throughout the month the Archives & Rare Books Library will be commemorating this notable event.  “Why?”  is the question we hear being whispered across campus.  It is because ARB holds a very fine collection of Dickens – Dickens in parts, Dickens first editions in single and multiple volumes, Dickens in collected works, Dickens, Dickens, Dickens.  It is the Dickens, we say.  Continue reading →

RefWorks 2.0 Replaces Classic Version January 3, 2012

As of January 3, 2012, the classic RefWorks version will be permanently replaced by the new RefWorks 2.o version.  If you have not yet made the switch to RefWorks 2.0, log into RefWorks and click on the “RefWorks 2.0” link at the top of the RefWorks screen.  Compare the two versions until the end of the year.

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Makes a 1987 Guest Appearance at OCAS

UC OMI College of Applied Science poster for Wozniak appearanceAs the Engineering and Applied Science merger comes to a conclusion, College of Engineering and Applied Science Library Director Ted Baldwin has presented the Archives with some interesting material from his offices at the former CAS Library. Recently we came across a reminder that an intriguing guest speaker was on the agenda for OCAS’s 1987 Technology Exposition. Steve Wozniak, who prefers to be addressed simply as “Woz,” co-founded Apple Computer Inc. in 1976 along with Steve Jobs. Woz was the engineering muscle behind the development of the Apple I and Apple II personal computers, released in 1976 and 1979 respectively. In 1981 a plane crash forced him to take time off from Apple and he decided to return to the University of California at Berkley to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and computer science. (To divert attention away from himself, he enrolled under the name Rocky Raccoon Clark.)   He returned to Apple in 1983, but left again in 1985 to devote his attention to inventions and education.
