The Sleep Cycle Comes to an End

As the school year comes to a close today so does my internship at the Archives & Rare Books Library.  Throughout my internship I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and have truly come to appreciate the role the Archives & Rare Books Library plays in documenting Cincinnati’s history.  Not originally from this town, through processing the Nelson and Florence Hoffman Cincinnati Post Card Collection and The Gaylord Oscar Shepherd Collection of Strobridge Lithography Company Calendar Cards, I was able learn about Cincinnati’s rich past and all of the events and people that gave rise to the present culture of the city.

Works of Wearable Art on Display in the DAAP LibraryEver dream of wearing a piece of sculpture? You can imagine it now when you visit the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) . On display through July 31 are handsculpted, original jewelry designs in precious metals from Lynne Meyers Gordon, M.F.A. The annual Authors, Editors and Composers reception and program was held Tuesday, April 17, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. At the event, UC Libraries honored 285 faculty members and their 413 creative and scholarly works published in the year 2011. From Pyramids to Spacecraft

Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) April 20 – May 15, 2012. The exhibit features selected projects by the design studio Architecture and Vision, founded by Italian architect Arturo Vittori and Swiss architect Andreas Vogler, with offices in Munich, Germany and Bomarzo, Italy. Charley Harper on Display

To celebrate this milestone, an exhibit highlighting the life and publishing career of Harriet Beecher Stowe is on display on Langsam Library’s 5th floor. A timeline noting important events in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s life is displayed along with samples of some of her writing.

Our Bearcat Image Library is Growing Again!

Our Bearcat Image Library is Growing Again!Two new images have been added to our Bearcat exhibit. The photographs, taken by ARB Student Assistant Lauren Fink, depict the Bearcat making a stand around campus. The first is one of two statues guarding the Clifton Avenue entrance to McMicken Hall. Just find Mick and Mack and look up to see these fellows dutifully scanning the horizon. The second is a large inflatable bearcat currently holding ground in the UC Bookstore. He stands confidently and proudly welcoming customers to the Bookstore’s upper level.
