Ugly Duckling Presse Exhibit in DAAP Library

A gift from Ugly Duckling Presse for DAAP Library’s Special Collections is on display now through January in the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library of DAAP.

Please come see these interesting artists’ books by some Belgian surrealists, Zahra Patterson, Joyelle McSweeney & Johannes Goransson, Stacy Szymaszek, Michalis Pichler, and Ryan Haley.

UC Libraries Closed Thanksgiving

thanks imageUC Libraries will be closed Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 for Thanksgiving, with the exception of the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library, which will be open Friday, November 23 from noon – 5:00pm. Regular library hours will resume Saturday, November 24.

This closing includes the Langsam Library 4th floor space, which will close Wednesday, November 21 at 6pm and re-open Saturday, November 24 at 10am.

UC Libraries Closed Nov. 12 for Veterans’ Day. HSL to Remain Open 9am-5pm.

Veterans DayUC Libraries will be closed Monday, November 12 in observance of Veterans’ Day, except for the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library, which will be open 9am to 5pm.

Normal hours will resume Tuesday, November 13. This closing includes the Walter C. Langsam Library 4th floor space, which will close Sunday, November 11 at 11pm and re-open Tuesday, November 13 at 8am.

SAE Standards and Papers (Trial Access)

Through November 10, UC has trial access to SAE Mobilus, a vast repository of engineering and technical content for the automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle industries.  The trial includes access to SAE standards and technical papers.

Standards cover these areas: Ground Vehicle Standards (J-Reports), Aerospace Standards, and Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS). Technical papers include thousands of reports on the latest advances and research in all areas of mobility engineering, including ground vehicle, aerospace, off-highway transport, and manufacturing technology.

Your feedback on the SAE Mobilus trial is important to our evaluation.  Please send comments to: Ted.Baldwin@uc.edu (Ted Baldwin, Director of the Science and Engineering Libraries).  Following the trial, we will use your feedback to determine if we pursue a campus subscription.

XSEDE High Performance Computing Summer Boot Camp 2018

 

As part of the Data and Computational Science Series funded by the Provost Office, IT@UC and UC Libraries will host a XSEDE HPC Summer Boot Camp.  

The University of Cincinnati is pleased to be a remote site for the XSEDE Summer Boot Camp, taught by the Pittsburg Supercomputing Center. The workshop will run from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm each day from June 4-7th. This 4-day event will include training with MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC, and accelerators.  The workshop will conclude with a special hybrid exercise contest that will challenge participants to apply their skills for three weeks after the training. Winners will be awarded the Fifth Annual XSEDE Summer Boot Camp Championship Trophy and an XSEDE Badge will be available to those who complete the challenge.

XSEDE (eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment) is a virtual system that provides compute resources for scientists and researchers from all over the country. Its mission is to facilitate research collaboration among institutions, enhance research productivity, provide remote data transfer, and enable remote instrumentation. UC Libraries Names Brad Warren Associate Dean of Library Services

Xuemao Wang, dean and university librarian, announces that Brad Warren will join the University of Cincinnati Libraries as the associate dean of library services starting August 3, 2018.

Brad comes to UC Libraries from Yale University where he has served as the director of access service for Sterling Memorial and Bass Libraries since March 2009. Prior to Yale, Brad held various librarian positions at the University of North Carolina Charlotte J. Murrey Atkins Library and North Carolina State University Libraries. He received his BA in comparative literature and history from Indiana University and his Masters in library science from Indiana University.

Brad will be a member of the Dean’s Cabinet and his leadership portfolio will include Langsam Library’s Research, Teaching and Services Department, the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, the Albino Gorno Memorial Music Library, the John Miller Burnam Classics Library and the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services Library.
