Paper featuring Scholar@UC Gets Best Research Paper Award!
Congratulations to Dr. Nan Niu and his research team!
Recently Dr. Nan Niu traveled to Beijing, China to attend the RE16 conference- Requirements Engineering16 http://re16.org/downloads/RE16%20program.pdf. He took with him high hopes for the requirements engineering research paper he and his team submitted together with Linda Newman, Head of Repositories and Digital Collections and Amy Koshoffer, Science Informationist. Dr. Niu has made all the research materials supporting this work available through Scholar@UC https://scholar.uc.edu/works/documents/wm117q084. Dr. Niu is making brilliant use of Scholar@UC as a teaching tool, a research subject, data preservation tool and an open data/access model. Again congratulations to Dr. Niu and the whole team!!

We have three presenters who will talk on very diverse topics.
1st Lightning Talk – Carolyn Hansen – Metadata Librarian, UC Libraries –Digital Humanities projects using GIS visualizations and discuss how GIS applications can be used to answer humanities research questions.
2nd Lightning Talk – Jeremy Koster – Assoc Professor, A&S Anthropology – Using GIS and remote sensing to understand the spread of the agricultural frontier in the rain forests of Nicaragua
In depth presentation – Jeffery Timberlake- Assoc Professor, A&S Sociology – Understanding and accessing census data
We will also be joined by James Lee who will talk briefly about the Digital Humanities and Scholarship Center and his role as Co-Director and his vision for the center.

It was a long and busy summer here at UC Libraries with several exciting projects that kicked off just in time for the start of the fall semester. August in particular was full of library sponsored events, including the Grand Opening of the Langsam Starbucks the first week of school. Several other events took place right before the start of the semester that centered on the International Federation of Library Associations and Institution’s (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress. UC Employees Featured in UC Magazine
UC Libraries is proud to be a part of the Provost’s Strategic Hiring Opportunity and Dual Career Assistance programs. In a recent article in UC Magazine, library employees Bill McMillin, Tiffany Grant, Don Jason, Hong Cheng and Robert Freeman are included in a feature of new employees that “have joined UC with support from Provost Office funds dedicated to recruit the best and brightest in their fields as well as to attract and support faculty who have partners who can bring their own academic expertise to campus.” You can read all about it online in UC Magazine.
11/13: UC Libraries & IT@UC Host Ohio Supercomputer Center workshops
UC Libraries and IT@UC Research and Development are pleased to present a 1-hour workshop that will provide an introduction on the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) resources and how to use them.
The workshop will be offered Friday, Nov. 13, on both UC’s East and West campuses, at the following times and locations:
- 10:30-11:30 a.m., Health Sciences Library, East Campus
- 1:30-2:30 p.m., Langsam Library, Room 475, West Campus
Topics include:
- What is OSC?
- How can OSC help you?
- High Performance Computing (HPC) concepts
- Introduction to OSC’s HPC services
- How to get access
- Governance; how you can participate
- Environment (operating system, connection methods, etc.)
- Introduction to non-interactive computing
- Data storage services
- Scientific applications
