UCBA and Clermont College Libraries Join Click and Collect

click and collect graphicBeginning July 6, the libraries at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College and Clermont College will join other UC Library locations offering Click & Collect services to provide users with access to print and media collections in order to support UC teaching and research.

The Click & Collect retrieval and pickup service allows UC users to request print and media library materials in the Library Catalog for pickup at the owning library location. Currently, deliveries between UC Libraries and OhioLINK requests are unavailable at this time. UCBA Library and UC Clermont Library materials requests made by 9:00 AM Wednesdays will be available for pickup between 12 PM – 4:00 PM on Thursdays. Due dates have been automatically set for August 10.

UC Blue Ash College Library Click & Collect

  • Available print and media materials (excluding Reference and Course Reserves) can be requested through the library catalog
  • Laptops and calculators can be requested (UCBA students only) by completing the UCBA Library Equipment Request Form. Specific appointment times will be set for equipment pick-ups.
  • Requested materials and equipment are available for pick-up at the Community Commons patio outside entry/exit doors nearest to the UCBA Library front entrance. A valid student I.D. must be presented when picking up equipment.

UC Clermont College Library Click & Collect Details

  • Materials can be requested through the catalog.  can be requested by emailing clermontlibrary@uc.edu.
  • To retrieve materials, enter Clermont College through the East entrance in the Snyder Building near public safety and sign in. Users then will be asked to show an ID prior to taking materials at the library near the front desk.
  • If a limited number of requests have been made in a week, you may be contacted for an appointment time rather than utilizing the Thursday window.  Appointments are always welcomed to retrieve materials. Clermont faculty/staff may request to have materials delivered to their campus mailbox as well.

UC Clermont Library Trivia Results

UC Clermont Library hosted an online trivia tournament during May. We would like to thank everyone who participated! We hope you had fun with it and learned a little something about libraries or Cincinnati.

Total correct answers: 51.4%
Total incorrect answers: 48.6%
Average score: 6182.7 points

According to Kahoot, the hardest two questions, both with only 28% correct answers, were the following:

#5. Which of these is Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhood? Avondale, Over the Rhine, Walnut Hills, or Columbia-Tusculum? The answer is Columbia-Tusculum, which was was founded in 1788 on the Little Miami River and predates Losantiville (which became Cincinnati) by a month.

#10. True or false, the last time the Cincinnati Bengals made it to the Superbowl was 1989. The answer is “true” – the last time the Bengals made it to the Superbowl was in ’89, but they lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

Join UC Clermont Library for Trivia this Summer!

Need a break in your studies or research this summer? Check out our new online trivia game on Kahoot! It will run all summer and features questions about the Cincinnati area, libraries in general, and the University itself. If you’re new to the area it might be a great way to learn some fun facts about Cincinnati and UC!  Join us on Kahoot and follow the directions on the page. This particular trivia series will run until the end of May and we will release the results in June.

Your Library Faculty, Staff, and Students at Home

At UC Clermont, we’ve been working from home now for over a month! Our daily routines, much like everyone’s, have changed. We are working hard to keep you up to date on what’s going on at UC Libraries – how to access resources, what to do with materials you may have, answering any questions you have, and more. We are still doing the behind-the-scenes work of the library’s operations as well as working on our own professional development. It’s not just our work routines that have changed though!

Student workers Scarlett, Anna, and Emily have been at home with their families attending classes online and working on various library projects and virtual training sessions/webinars throughout the last few weeks. They are looking forward to getting back to campus, work, and normal life but enjoying time with their pets and families right now!

Catie Carlson, UC Clermont Library Director, has been trying to share her home office with her husband, dog, and cat. None of whom work very quietly for a library. She’s been rewatching Grey’s Anatomy, building LalaIsland in Animal Crossing, and battling it out in Splatoon 2. Now and then, she’s trying to get to know her new neighborhood with dog walks and takeout food.

Kathy Ladell, our new Librarian, has been getting used to online work and is enjoying virtually meeting UC people from across the campuses.  Since she likes to be outdoors, she has been discovering new parks in the area, while keeping an appropriate social distance, of course.  In the evening, she settles down with her furry companion, Loki, to watch multiple seasons of Portlandia or The Office.

Emily Wages, library operations manager, is home with her husband Quinn, dog Shay, and cat Chili. She is trying to continue running around her neighborhood, since she had been training for the (now postponed) Flying Pig Marathon. She’s been spending a lot of time in her yard gardening and bird watching while her husband bakes bagels (a new hobby). She has also been having a lot of video chat hangouts with family and friends.

Currently Checked Out Library Materials

Many faculty, staff, students, and adjuncts who are now working from home have currently checked out library materials. Whether it’s an item from our Clermont Library, one of the other UC Libraries like Langsam, or SearchOhio/OhioLink, you do not need to worry about late fees! If you have books or other materials from UC Libraries, these should automatically renew and/or have an extended due date. If you have a SearchOhio, OhioLink, or Interlibrary Loan item that looks like it is accruing fines, those will be waived until we can return to campus.

UC Clermont Library does not have a book return dropbox and is not accepting any returns. Please do not attempt to return any materials at this time. If you plan on returning in the fall, please keep your materials and return them at that time. Otherwise, books may be returned to the drop slot at the main entrance of Langsam Library. When we get closer to returning to campus, we will send out more updates about returning materials.  If you have any questions, email the Clermont College Library at clermontlibrary@uc.edu.

Welcome to Clermont College Library, Kathy Ladell!

Clermont College Library welcomes a new faculty member – Reference Librarian, Kathy Ladell! 

Kathy comes to UC Clermont from Northern Illinois University where she served as an Outreach Librarian. Kathy worked for many years with non-profits serving Spanish-speaking individuals before obtaining a master’s degree in Library Science and Latin American Studies from Indiana University. She worked in public libraries for 7 years before transitioning to an academic library. 

Kathy’s role at Clermont College Library will focus on reference and research services. She will work to develop online reference services while continuing to support our on-campus students, faculty, and staff.

Exploring Academic Search Complete

As you work on final projects and need to find information sources, don’t forget about Academic Search Complete! Academic Search Complete contains news, scholarly articles, magazines, and more. It’s a general database that contains information about a lot of different topics and is especially useful when search results from Summon (the search box on the library homepage) seem overwhelming. Check out the two videos linked below for tips on using Academic Search Complete and advanced database searching to get the right sources fast! 

Remember when accessing resources from off-campus, you’ll need to use the proxy login first before you can get into the database. As always, if you need help with accessing Academic Search Complete, using the proxy, or any other library resources, contact us at clermontlibrary@uc.edu for help!
