By using Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall, UC patrons can experience the complete 2020/21 season of the Berlin Philharmonic online. There are two access options: “Direct Access” or to “Login” by creating a personal account that will enable additional features like playlists and email notifications. BOTH OPTIONS WORK for UC patrons. When off campus, remember to use the “proxy” address URL from the CCM Library homepage (under Online Video). Check out the 2020/21 season brochure to see what’s coming up (hint: there’s a live concert this Friday Aug. 28 at 1:00pm).
New Chat Service, Using the UCBA Library Video, and Off Campus Access Updates
by Michelle McKinney and Kellie Tilton
Off Campus Access
UC Libraries have made a change to accessing resources from off campus this summer. Instead of the library login, you will now access resources through the standard UC login screen and DUO authentication. This means, if you’ve already logged into a UC resource, like Canvas, you’ll be able to seamlessly connect to library virtual resources.
For faculty and staff: to make sure links to library resources works with single sign on, please remember to use proxied links. Some databases generate a proxy link automatically with their permanent URL, but if you need to generate a proxy link of your own, UC Libraries has created a proxy link generator available at this page. More information on finding a resource’s permanent link and adding the proxy is available at this site.
Using the UCBA Library
Things look a bit different in the UCBA Library this semester. Here’s a quick video that covers the different ways to use the library this fall.
Chat with the UCBA Library!
Students, staff and faculty can now chat in real-time with the UCBA Library, Monday – Friday, 10am – 2pm. Visit the UCBA Library website and click on Questions? Ask the UCBA Library! button.
Virtual research support is also available Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We reply to email and form questions within one day. Questions that occur outside of service hours will be addressed the following business day (if Friday, responses will be addressed on Monday).
- Ask A Research Question about research assignments and information needs. Research support will be provided via email or online form during this time.
- Email the Library with questions about hours, services, support or library resource access issues.
- Embed library guides into your Canvas course to provide library support directly to your students.

OhioLINK and Interlibrary Loan Borrowing have resumed.
Clermont College Library: Fall 2020
Clermont College Library will reopen on August 24 for the Fall 2020 semester. To help address questions, the library has developed a Fall 2020 FAQs page, which we hope will help Clermont students, faculty, and staff understand library operations in the upcoming semester. We anticipate the page will need to be updated throughout as we navigate these unfamiliar times, so feel free to refer to the page often.
Here are a few highlights for things you can expect from your Clermont College Library:
UC Libraries Announce Phased Approach to Re-Open Library Facilities
With the start of fall semester, UC Libraries will begin to re-open library facilities to the UC community in a limited, phased approach to ensure social distancing. Our priority remains to provide access to library resources to the extent possible while maintaining the health and safety of students, faculty and staff. The availability and use of locations and spaces within the libraries will be reviewed on a continual basis and updates will be posted on the Libraries website.
Beginning August 10, the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library (HSL) is open for fall semester with limited in-person accessibility to library spaces.
Beginning August 17, the UC Blue Ash College Library is open with services available in person, virtually or both.
Tues-Fri, August 18-21, the 400 level of the Walter C. Langsam Library will be open from 10am-4pm. No library services will be available during this time.
Beginning August 24, the Walter C. Langsam Library, Albino Gorno Memorial (CCM) Library, John Miller Burnam Classics Library, Archives and Rare Books Library and UC Clermont College Library will open with limitations and protocols to ensure social distancing. Location specifics are listed at https://libraries.uc.edu/about/covid-19.html.
Other library locations remain closed at this time, but are under review for re-opening at a date to be announced. UC Libraries remains open and available online to provide users with access to library resources and services.
Library users can once again request OhioLINK & Interlibrary Loan materials. Details are posted on the Libraries website.
Format of Library Resource URLs for Off Campus Use
UC faculty and researchers, are you creating your syllabi and course materials? As you prepare for fall semester and are either adding or updating links to articles, e-books and other library resources, changes to the UC VPN in March 2020 means that Off Campus Access for library resources has changed. Use the following tools to affix the library’s proxy link to the permanent URL for resources to ensure seamless use both on and off-campus. This will also provide accessibility options for students and help alleviate some copyright concerns.

Returning Items to the CCM Library now possible
OhioLINK and Interlibrary Loan Borrowing have resumed
Library users can request OhioLINK materials for pickup at Langsam Library using the OhioLINK catalog or by using the “Search OhioLINK” tab after a search in our local Library Catalog.
To ensure staff safety, all incoming materials will be quarantined for six days before being processed and made available for borrowing.
Using Interlibrary Loan (ILL) library users may request print materials and electronic copies of articles and chapters from books not held by UC Libraries. The pickup location for print materials will be Langsam Library only for west campus.
Reminder. The current west campus pickup location for OhioLINK and ILL is Langsam Library only.
Save the Date: GIS Day 2020
GIS Day is an annual event for students, staff, faculty, and the broader community to learn more about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and to celebrate the power of geospatial analysis and visualization in answering research questions and solving real-world problems. This year, GIS Day is happening on Wednesday, November 18, and we hope you’ll mark your calendars so you can participate. We’re excited to bring you a different kind of GIS Day experience this year and to tell you a bit about what we have in the works.
In the past, we’ve hosted in-person GIS Day events, but we decided early in the discussions about returning to campus for autumn semester that this would not be a good idea in 2020. The first important change for this year is that we’re going virtual!
A virtual GIS Day provides us with a great opportunity to broaden participation in the program. Another important change this year is that our GIS Day 2020 program will be a collaboration between The Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Cincinnati. Get ready for 3C GIS Day!
We’re in the early stages of planning, but we look forward to an exciting program that will include:
- Lightning Talks
- Learn about the application of geospatial technologies in a wide variety of disciplines from faculty, staff, students, and GIS professionals across Ohio’s 3C Corridor (Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati).
- StoryMaps Showcase
- We’re inviting any students, staff, and faculty affiliated with The Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Cincinnati to create and submit ArcGIS StoryMaps to showcase their work on GIS Day and beyond. More details about the StoryMaps Showcase will be coming soon!
- Professional Networking
- We will provide a venue for GIS professionals, researchers, and students from across Ohio to connect with one another and discuss experiences, opportunities, and current topics of interest in the world of geospatial.
In anticipation, there will be a StoryMaps workshop on October 5, 2020 from 10 am – 12 pm taught by the Research and Data Services team and hosted by the FEC. Stay tuned for more information about this workshop and 3C GIS Day in the coming weeks and months, and mark your calendars for a great event on November 18, 2020! The event is free and open to all.
The 3C GIS Day planning committee includes Josh Sadvari and Katie Phillips (OSU), Ben Gorham (Case), and Amy Koshoffer (UC). If you have any questions about 3C GIS Day or are interested in participating and want to receive updates, please email Amy Koshoffer at askData@uc.edu.
